The National Archives and Records Administration partnered with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation to sponsor Yanek Mieczkowski's reflection on his newest book "Eisenhower's Sputnik Moment: The Race for Space and World Prestige" at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Mieczkowski is Professor and Chair of the History Department at Dowling College of Long Island. Mieczkowski has authored several books on Presidents including Gerald R. Ford. "Eisenhower's Sputnik Moment" details President Dwight Eisenhower's initial reaction to Russia launching Sputnik and his subsequent action and leadership to claim an American victory over the Soviets in the Space Race.
