September 11, 2015 Day of Remembrance and Scout Salute
The Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation was once again honored to participate with West Michigan as part of the annual September 11th Day of Remembrance and Scout Salute at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum. The President Ford Council Boy Scouts of America led the West Michigan community in a day-long Scout Salute at the Museum to pay respect to all those who died during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The Day of Remembrance has been held each year from sunrise to sunset since September 12, 2002. The Day of Remembrance also included the "9/11: A Day that Changed America" exhibit in the Museum and "Flags for the Fallen" in Ah-Nabb-Awen Park.
On September 10th the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation, Kent County First Responders and West Michigan motorcycle groups participated in a Flag Escort and Raising Ceremony in preparation of the 9-11 Day of Remembrance and Scout Salute. The United States Flag was escorted to the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum via convoy that included West Michigan First Responders, United States Military and motorcycle groups. These groups included the Belmont Armory of the United States Army National Guard, the Patriot Guard Riders, Rolling Thunder, the Grand Rapids Fire Department, the Grand Rapids Police Department, the Kent County Sheriff’s Department, the Michigan State Police, the Boy Scouts of America from the Gerald R. Ford Council and the convoy chase vehicle was provided by Harley Davidson of Grand Rapids.
